Program Description: The goal of this training is to provide current information on Substance Use Disorder, how it relates to mental health, and how to screen and refer youth who use substances.

Objectives - participants will be able to:

1. Conduct a Substance Use Assessment using a Developmental Biopsychosocial Model of Addiction
2. Identify 6 categories of drugs commonly abused by adolescents and Medication Assisted Treatments (MAT) available
3. Describe 3 different relationships of Mental Disorders with Co-Occurring Substance Use Disorders
4. Describe use of a 1 Month Trial Abstinence Intervention to identify Levels of Care for treatment referral
5. Discuss 3 actions to involve families in evaluation, intervention and referral to treatment
6. Discuss 3 aspects of cultural awareness on substance use evaluation and referral to treatment

Presenter:

Calvin Chatlos, MD. Dr. Chatlos is a Board Certified Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist. His extensive training experience has included an array of clinical and mental health issues, relevant to children and adolescents. He is in private practice in New Jersey.
